A GANG of youths brought terror to drivers by hurling bricks at their cars.

And one victim has vowed never to drive into Oldham again after a brick thudded into the side of her Mini Cooper as she was driving along Oldham Way.

Kathryn Jackson (60), of Shaw, and her two young grandchildren narrowly avoided serious injury when the gang attacked as she was driving along Oldham Way from Tesco towards Oldham on Friday afternoon.

She said: “I had just turned from Featherstall Road South on to the bypass at about 2.15pm when I saw three Asian teenage boys standing at the side of the road.

“At first I thought they were going to run in front of the car, but the next thing I heard an almighty thud and they had hit my passenger door.

“Luckily I found a space to pull over and within minutes of me stopping four other cars had to stop after they had been hit.”

As police patrols arrived, cars had to swerve to avoid the left lane of the busy dual carriageway, which was now blocked by the damaged vehicles.

One female passenger in a people carrier is believed to have suffered cuts to her hands after a passenger window was smashed, but other passengers and motorists escaped injury.

Mrs Jackson now faces a repair bill of £670 but says it could have been much worse. She said: “I’m incandescent with rage at the stupidity of these youths. Having a brick thrown at your car could not just cause serious injuries from the impact, but it could have caused a multiple pile-up as drivers struggled to keep control of their vehicles.

“I had my two three-year-old grandchildren in the back who could have been killed in this incident.

“You should be able to go wherever you want to go without some idiots causing criminal damage and a potential serious accident.

“I’ve heard the Oldham Way has a reputation for this sort of thing and it is definitely the last time I will be driving into Oldham. It’s obviously not a safe place to drive.”

Police are investigating.
