VALE MILL. Apologies to owners and users of Squire Mill, Mossley - used inadvertently with a story about the club, two weeks ago.
A FORMER Mossley councillor has spoken out about a fetish club operating in Mossley.
Roy Etchells, who retired from Tameside Council in May, believes private members’ club Mossley Alternative Rooms would be better suited to a city centre.
The club, which holds fetish, bondage and domination nights, has been operating without the right licence. A planning application will be heard next month.
Mr Etchells said: “I don’t feel very happy about it being there. It’s up to the planners but I think there will be a lot of residents who object at the meeting.”
The club should have applied for a change of use, from industrial to private members’ use, before it opened. Its non-compliance was realised following investigation of a complaint about parking.
A spokeswoman defended the club.
She said: “MARS was founded to provide support, advice and education for the alternative community.
We have not advertised our presence and as a private members’ club, we need to demonstrate absolute discretion — both for our members and also for the surrounding local community.”
