COME together to celebrate 50 years since the Beatles came to Oldham

The Fab Four hit the Chronicle headlines when they played at the Astoria in King Street on February 12, 1963. There was mass hysteria as the Beatles second single “Please, Please Me” had just been released.

And at the same venue and date this year, new Oldham Beatles tribute band The Threetles are putting on a show to mark the landmark anniversary and raise cash for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Saddleworth CAFE (Cancer Aid for Everyone).

Threetles bassist Paul Brierley, a musician for 42 years, is a lifelong Beatles fan: “I remember being driven past the Astoria the day after the event and saw the railings all bent and buckled. How exciting it must have been. So we’re going to bring a bit of Beatlemania back.”

What used to be the Astoria is now the home of Rainy City Roller Girls, who have given permission for the show to go ahead there

Tickets (£3) for The Threetles 50th anniversary gig from Paul on 07876 207169 or the hospice office in Turf Lane, Royton; or shops at 83 High Street, Lees and 52 Market Street, Shaw.
