125 jobs to go at security printers

A CHADDERTON technology firm that lost a profitable passport contract five years ago is set to close.
3M has announced the start of a 45-day consultation with the 125 employees at its Broadway site.
Spokesman Robert Nichols said: “The business has been falling significantly short of expectations since the loss of the contract to produce the UK passport in 2009. With print playing a diminishing role, we do not foresee the business recovering.”
When discussions have been concluded employees will be briefed on the outcome.
Lord Livingston, Minister for Trade and Investment, visited the firm in February as part of a campaign to boost export revenues.
