Temporary boss gets my vote

IT was inevitable that Manchester City would lose a game at some stage, and to be honest Tottenham were the better side on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

It's simply not possible to win all your games, and City did come up against a really good side in Spurs.

I think Mauricio Pochettino is a top manager and he had clearly done his homework in the run-up to the game.

The Spurs players worked so hard and performed brilliantly in neutralising City's strengths really effectively.

Collectively they put in a real shift and were constantly pressurising City.

It's a big disappointment to now head into the international break mulling over a defeat, but Pep Guardiola will have learned a lot and the players will bounce back strongly in a fortnight.

It's merely a minor blip for City as far as I can see, but some of the other title challengers are coming into real form again now.

Arsenal are right up there again, and I think Liverpool are looking particularly strong and will be right up there.

Any neutral fans are in for a treat watching the Premier League this season, as I've said before.

So the attentions switch to the England games this week and a home World Cup qualifier against Malta.

To be perfectly honest I think I could play against Malta and England would still win.

It's not a real test at all, but at least Gareth Southgate will get the chance to have a look at a few things ahead of the Slovenia match next Tuesday.

GENTLEMAN

I really like Southgate and I hope he goes on to get the England job permanently.

I've met him a number of times and he's a real gentleman.

He's a genuinely approachable guy and he's intelligent.

He's a great coach and I think he'd do a successful job as England manager.

The big chiefs at the FA could certainly do a lot worse.
