OMINOUSLY for his potential opponents in Oldham tomorrow night and at the forthcoming PDC World Championships in London, darting superstar Michael van Gerwen appears to be bang in form.

The Dutch ace has just won the Cash Converters Players Championship finals for a third time, defeating Dave Chisnall 11-3 with a sensational display in the final at the Butlins Minehead Resort.

Van Gerwen's incredible 2016 continued with a 25th tournament win and a third televised triumph of the month as he followed victories in the World Series of Darts Finals and Grand Slam of Darts by taking the £75,000 first prize.

Speaking ahead of his appearance at tomorrow's second 'Oldham Night of Champions' at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, van Gerwen said: "I'm a happy man.

"I had to work really hard at Minehead, but I'm really glad that I won the trophy again.

"Going into the World Championship this is a big confidence boost for me.

"What I've done this year is phenomenal and I'm really proud of myself because nobody has won as many tournaments as this before."

Van Gerwen will again headline this year's 'Oldham Night of Champions', which proved popular last year.

The evening will also feature the return of defending champion Mark Webster, Vincent van der Voort, John Henderson, Darryl Fitton and the legendary Bobby George, with Premier League star Peter Wright, former world champion Stephen Bunting and the ever-entertaining Wayne Mardle also appearing.

Darts is regarded as the best night out in sport, with thousands of fans regularly flocking to events to sample its unique atmosphere and enjoy sporting entertainment of the highest quality.
