A vital response after City's European woe

TWO top teams fought out an end-to-end draw as Manchester City drew with Liverpool at the Etihad.

Both sides were really going for it, though I thought City edged it.

Adam Lallana missed a sitter I know, but on another day Sergio Aguero would have scored another two or three goals and it could have been a relatively comfortable win.

I was pleased with the City performance, because it showed the players wanted to respond positively to the huge disappointment last midweek at Monaco in the Champions League.

That first half showing in France just wasn't City. I don't know where it came from.

The lad Mbappe is a real quality player and a top prospect. He was like lightning in that first half, but then City went on to dominate the second.

However, they didn't capitalise enough as Monaco faded badly.

It was a major blow, but there's still plenty left to play for after the international break.

Finishing in the top three has to remain the chief target, and I've got every confidence that City will stay up there.

It's disappointing when you think back to all the chances the team has created over the course of the season, and then missed.

There's been games from day one where City have created gilt-edged opportunities, but just not taken them for one reason or another.

I recall the game against Chelsea at the Etihad, then the one against Tottenham.

It's been a problem, but going back to the weekend, it was crucial that City produced the goods in the very next game against a very good Liverpool team.

Mr Guardiola will need to see more of the same in the next two games - Arsenal away on April and Chelsea away the Wednesday after.
