EDWIN van der Sar is the latest player to be announced for the Legends Match to take place at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 2, between Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

The Dutch keeper will return to the Manchester United Legends squad following his last appearance in 2015 against Bayern Munich AllStars and will join veterans Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke and Ronny Johnsen for the latest clash.

Now CEO at Ajax, van der Sar still finds time to remain fit and is hoping to help United clinch victory, after missing the 3-1 victory in the first leg at the Nou Camp in June.

"Of course it's always nice to go back to Old Trafford," he said.

"I have taken part in these matches before against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for Manchester United Foundation so I'm looking forward to playing Barcelona in September.

"Hopefully, we're not going to mess it up! Not many teams go away from home and win so we should be able to bring home the trophy.

"I'm reasonably fit. I didn't retire because of any injuries and, once in a while, it's possible to train with the goalkeepers.

FOCUS

"My main focus, though, is on the general running of the club, the commercial side and the football side, and it's a busy job. So I look forward to these special moments."

Fans can also look forward to welcoming Andrew Cole back to the Old Trafford dugout as he takes on the role of assistant manager to Bryan Robson, and other favourites will also be stepping back out onto the hallowed turf, including former Athletic star Denis Irwin, Ji-sung Park and Wes Brown.

The Spanish side will be managed by José Mari Bakero and fans can look forward to welcoming Gaizka Mendieta, Éric Abidal, Miguel Angel Nadal, Gheorghe Popescu, Andoni Goikoetxea and Julio Salinas to the Theatre of Dreams.

British boyband The Vamps, who have just celebrated a number one album, will be performing pre-match and there will also be a number of family activities and carnival-style entertainment outside the stadium.

Legends are Back 2017 follows the success of the 2013 and 2015 clashes against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively, which jointly raised over £1.8 million for Manchester United Foundation.

The match will be shown live on MUTV in the UK and tickets are on sale now at www.manutd.com/legendsareback.

Prices start from £20 for adults and £5 for under-16s, with hospitality packages available from £125.

All proceeds will go to Manchester United Foundation's work across Greater Manchester.
