Joy at new Latics role

ATHLETIC accountant Neil Joy has been handed the chief executive post vacated by Alan Hardy, who stepped down for health reasons.

Hadfield resident Mr Joy (43), who has been at the club for 15 years, was delighted to be given the job.

He said: “In Alan’s absence over the last couple of months myself and Barry Owen (chairman of Trust Oldham) have been dealing with day-to-day matters, so it is a continuation of that process, but obviously with extra responsibilities thrown in.

“I feel I provide continuity after serving a ‘long apprenticeship’ that all the ups and downs the last 15 years have brought.

“However, I am also a fresh face bringing new ideas to the table to add to Alan’s excellent work.”

Joy did not rule out a repeat of last season’s one-off price drop which saw more than 8,000 fans turn out at Boundary Park for a league clash with Carlisle.

He added: “We are always looking at ways to increase the attendance. It was great to see so many fans at the Carlisle game last season and it is possible we will revisit the idea.”
