THE new Formula One season gets under way in Australia this weekend and, if you believe what rivals team bosses are saying, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are going to speed off with most of the races.
Such has been the excellence of Mercedes in pre-testing that even the likes of three-times world champion Sebastian Vettel is thought to be up against it this year, despite his previous dominance.
New guidelines in construction have been embraced by Mercedes, which is good news for British ace Hamilton who is 5-2 to win the championship (and the same price to win in Australia on Sunday).
Vettel’s colossal reputation means he is only 4-1 despite Red Bull’s problems on the eve of the season, while Hamilton’s team-mate Rosberg is only 11-2 to clinch the title.
Then it’s 7-1 Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) and 14-1 bar.
Rosberg is 9-2 to win in Australia, but Hamilton is the faster driver and he looks the logical bet to triumph in the opening race of the season.
RECOMMENDATION: Lewis Hamilton to win Australian Grand Prix, 5-2 (Sky Bet, Betfred, Ladbrokes).
