LUKE Shaw was today expected to complete his move to Manchester United in a deal understood to be worth more than £27million.

United have also agreed a £28.8m deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.

The two signings mark the start of Louis van Gaal’s reign as manager; the club expects to bring in at least two more high-profile players as it steps up its bid to regain the Premier League crown.

Shaw, the 18–year–old Southampton left–back, underwent a medical at United’s Carrington training ground last night.

Shaw will be competing with Patrice Evra for the left–back role at Old Trafford, but is understood to have been told he will be first choice despite competition from the French international.

Evra penned a one–year contract extension last month.

Manchester City have signed Porto defensive midfielder Fernando.

No transfer fee was announced by City, but Porto’s statement said a deal worth £12m had been struck.

City have announced a further expansion of the Etihad Stadium, which will take the total capacity to more than 55,000.

The development will add a further three rows of seats at pitchside level, and come in addition to the work already under way to add 6,000 seats to the South Stand.

Both projects are due for completion for the 2015-16 season.
