Rooney impressed with new boss

MANCHESTER United manager Louis van Gaal has not been in his new role for a week, but he has already made a good impression on Wayne Rooney.

Van Gaal will take charge of his first game as United boss tomorrow when the Red Devils face the Los Angeles Galaxy in Pasadena.

After taking Holland to the last four of the World Cup, Van Gaal was only able to assume his position at Old Trafford last Wednesday. The squad then flew to California on Friday and they have since been undertaking double–training sessions to get them back to full fitness ahead of the new season.

Rooney has been impressed by what he has seen of the new manager so far.

“It’s been good meeting the manager and the new coaching staff. The first couple of training sessions have been good and everyone is looking forward to getting the games under way,” Rooney said.

“We’ve got a new manager with different ideas – we have to train well and listen to what he wants us to do and take that onto the pitch and show him what we can do.”

Meanwhile, United’s Patrice Evra has completed a £1.2m move to Italian champions Juventus.

The France left-back (33) has signed a two-year contract, therefore ending his eight-and-a-half year stint at Old Trafford.

Evra joined United in January, 2006, from Monaco for £5.5m, and won five Premier League titles.
