Kamikaze defending is costing team dear

ATHLETIC’S defensive line has been pulled apart by “kamikaze” moments so far this season, says manager Lee Johnson.

Johnson has watched his back line concede five goals in the opening two league games. That compares unfavourably to only six let in during the final 10 games of last season.

Johnson believes lapses will reduce over the next few weeks.

“It will change. We have a new back four and need to get the principles in place.

“I have been disappointed particularly with two or three of the goals we have conceded because they are completely against what we have worked on in training.

“There has been a ‘kamikaze’ aspect and that has had a ripple effect that has hurt us. All we can do is carry on working hard on the training ground.”
