Sports Betting: A $10million crock of gold awaits Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy if he can win this weekend’s Tour Championship at East Lake, Georgia.

Victory in the final event of the FedEx Cup would be enough to land the huge bonus for McIlroy, and if his performances when it mattered most in majors are anything to go by then the rest of the 30-strong field is in trouble.

McIlroy is 7-2 to win the the Tour Championship, but will need to brush up his putting. He four-putted the 12th green on successive days in last weekend’s BMW Championship in Denver, so unless there is a change of blade, a pretty strong mind is going to be needed on the greens.

Leading the FedEx standings is Chris Kirk, but the American is 50-1 to win. The pressure of competing for so much money may well prove too much for the home player, but one man who has proven form in this event is Jim Furyk, who has been performing well in recent weeks without getting over the finishing line.

Furyk is peaking nicely with the Ryder Cup on the horizon and will be desperate to keep the momentum going this weekend. His steady approach will be an asset when others are pushing too hard; so 12-1 is a fair reflection of his chances.

RECOMMENDATION: Jim Furyk to win Tour Championship, 12-1 (general).
