All well between Johnson and Corney

LEE Johnson has again saluted his relationship with Simon Corney, despite initially stating in yesterday’s pre-match press conference that in his opinion, club chairmen “should be seen and not heard”.

Johnson appeared disappointed that Corney revealed in last Friday’s Chronicle that Athletic were close to being hit with another transfer embargo, with clubs in Sky Bet League One only permitted to shell out no more than 65 per-cent of turnover on payments to players.

However, Johnson said: “I’ve spoken to Simon since and just didn’t think it was important enough to mention.

“I know what he’s like. I love him to bits, but sometimes he chucks in the curve-ball, which in my opinion he’s done in this instance.

“However, when he comes over (from America) we’ll have dinner like we always do, I’ll chuck him a bit of banter as I always do, and no doubt he will have seen my comment.

“We’ve got the kind of relationship in which we can be like that with each other, though, and of course I respect him.

“He’s my chairman, my boss, and we have got that open relationship.

“I couldn’t ask for a better chairman at a club like this.”
