ANGLING: JAMES Cantello continued his strong form with victory in the five-hour Northern AA open match on the Miners Arms length of the Macclesfield Canal.

The Tri-Cast Highfield Rod used bread punch over liquidised bread for small roach tight across for 6lb 7oz.

Cantello dominated the Old Hough Fishery Thursday open. Using the straight lead and method feeder approach, he netted 21 carp and f1s.

Barry Holmes, in second spot, chose the jigga method, with maggot on the hook accounting for 35lb 1oz.

ANDY Dawes won the open match on the Bungalows length of the Rochdale Canal in Chadderton.

Weights were good, with Dawes (Edgeley Sports) opting for caster at 11 metres for some decent skimmers and roach in a 7lb 9oz bag.

Alan Crook (Maver NW) was left to rue the loss of five fish to pike - which cost him the match. He had to settle for a second-best 6lb 12oz of roach and skimmers on bread punch, pinkie and groundbait.

Tomorrow’s match is on the Boat and Horses length, with the draw at 9am.

RICHARD Rawsthorne, of Gilders, topped the Tuesday Old Hough Fishery match on Lucky Dip Lake.

Using corn at five metres, he netted him 62lb 5oz of good-sized carp. Second was Ryan Searle with a 48lb 2oz net made up of ide and f1s on pellet.

Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) was first on Prospect Lake. He employed meat and hemp at five metres for 58lb 3oz of carp and ide. Kevin Price was second with 17lb 9oz of mostly barbel.

DAVE Machin topped the third round of the Diggle AC Winter League on Tanners Dam, with pole and pellet tactics attracting 12lb 4oz of skimmers. Darren Webb was second with 10lb 6oz of skimmers and two carp.

After three rounds, Machin leads with five points, with Webb on 10 points.

TWINGATES AC are running members-only matches throughout the winter months, and dates are: December 7 and 21; January 4 and 18; February 1 and 15; March 1 and 15. The draw is at 9am and the pools are £10 all in. To book, call at Tight Lines in Shaw.

I TOOK part in the Wednesday Mirfield Canal open on the Lidl length and came third with 6lb 6oz of roach.

First was Alan Crook (Mave NW), with his pinkie and groundbait tactics at various lengths working well for a superb 11lb net of mostly roach caught from the peg next to the river lock. The runner-up was Richard Jackson (Halifax Matrix). He used pinkie over groundbait for 6lb 9oz of roach.
