Heffron out of action

THE show goes on at Oldham Sports Centre tomorrow despite local fans being denied the opportunity to see Ronnie Heffron in action.
Former amateur star Heffron had been set to return to the ring in his home town for the first time since defeat at the hands of unbeaten ace Liam Williams in July in a British title eliminator.
However, illness has laid low Heffron this week and promoters VIP Boxing confirmed the 24-year-old’s withdrawal yesterday.
Six bouts remain on what still promises to be an action-packed card.
Failsworth lightweight Jake Bulger – with one professional win so far – gets the night under way with a six, two-round contest against Birmingham journeyman Sid Razak, while Droylsden amateur star Charlie Schofield will make his debut in the paid ranks against Jason Jones.
Super-featherweight Collyhurst prospect Zelfa Barrett – nephew of former British champion Pat – will bid to win his second bout against Swindon’s Joe Beedon, while Scouse lightweight Andy Colquhoun will hope to extend his unbeaten record to 11 from 11 against Wiltshire hopeful Liam Richards.
Unbeaten stars Juston Newell (Leeds) and Artif Ali (Accrington) complete the bill.
The first bout is scheduled to start at 6.40pm.
