SPORTS BETTING: HAVING recommended Andy Murray for Australian Open success at 7-1, it is pleasing to see him safely in the semi-finals and down to 11-4 to win the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.

But the hard work starts here as lying in wait is Tomas Berdych, who has yet to drop a set.

Murray is a best-priced 8-11 to win Friday’s semi-final, with Berdych 7-5 and 15-2 for the whole shebang.

Novak Djokovic was 8-11 favourite even before this morning’s quarter-final against Milos Raonic (33-1), while reigning champion Stan Wawrinka can be backed at 7-1 despite his straight sets victory over Kei Nishikori.

CHELSEA are 3 to 1-on favourites to win the Capital One Cup after reaching the final at the expense of Liverpool last night.

Tottenham (11-4) and Sheffield United (40-1) play in tonight’s other semi-final with Spurs holding a 1-0 lead after the first leg at White Hart Lane.

The FA Cup, meanwhile, seems to be falling into the lap of holders Arsenal or Manchester United following some bizarre results at the weekend.

Arsenal are 5-2 favourites, with United 3-1, Liverpool 13-2, West Ham 10-1 and Stoke 14s.

Chelsea and Manchester City were shock casualties, but the Premier League title is of greater importance to both and the two teams clash in a Saturday teatime blockbuster at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts are 21-20 to come out on top and open up an eight-point lead over their main rivals, while City are 3-1 and the draw 11-4.

RAIN washed out India’s Tri Nations match against Australia on Monday and worked in their favour.

It means Friday’s fixture against England is a winner-takes-all affair, with the victors assured of a place in next week’s final.

The bookies make India 19-20 favourites with England 11-10, but I don’t understand those odds given England’s nine-wicket victory over India.

RECOMMENDATION: England to beat India in Tri Nations series on Friday, 11-10 (Ladbrokes).
