IT IS full steam ahead for Athletic as the club sets off to play Leyton Orient - with manager Lee Johnson stressing his focus remains on the game, not speculation about his future.
Barnsley bosses have asked Athletic for permission to speak to Johnson about their vacant managerial job. Athletic have yet to respond, but it is believed Barnsley are still in the earliest stages of selection.
Despite uncertainty over his future, Johnson took charge of training again today and stressed his only job is to take three points on Saturday.
“It’s business as usual,” said Johnson, who wasn’t willing to discuss the Barnsley position. “This is a massive game we have got to win..
“The focus hasn’t changed. We had a poor game against Colchester and the lads are upset with themselves. They know they blew a good opportunity and are determined to take three points on Saturday.”
Orient lost again last night, 2-0 to Bradford. - which drew the Yorkshiremen ahead of Athletic in the league.
Johnson hopes he can cash in on the discontent around the East London club, having seen the impact a nervous crowd can have on players during Athletic’s own lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Colchester.
