Thunder tickets proving popular

TICKETS are selling fast for what promises to be the country’s biggest domestic netball game.

Manchester Thunder will play their home Superleague semi-final at the Manchester Arena on April 18 and more than 1,000 tickets have already been sold. The venue reflects the growing popularity of netball and women’s sport as a whole, with Sky Sports broadcasting the match live from the 21,000 capacity arena.

The game follows the success of the recent Superleague match between Surrey Storm and Hertfordshire Mavericks, watched by just over 6,000 netball fans. Thunder are aiming to attract an even bigger crowd.

Their opponent is yet to be confirmed, but is likely to be either Hertfordshire Mavericks or Roses rivals Yorkshire Jets. A curtain raiser netball match will start at 4.30pm, prior to the main event.

Thunder maintained their 100 per cent Superleague record with a thrilling 57-56 win over Yorkshire Jets at the Thunderdome. Jets were left wondering how they lost in the dying seconds for the second time in as many seasons in a match that was within their grasp.

The visitors had a turnover advantage, but a wonderful intercept from Thunder’s Kerry Almond produced scenes almost identical to those in that famous title-winning victory in 2014.

And it was once again cool-as-you-like Helen Housby who was entrusted with netting a difficult chance on the buzzer to snatch a one-goal win.
