WAYNE Rooney wants to put a smile back on the faces of Manchester United fans by claiming victory in Sunday's derby against City.
Rooney has enjoyed a good record against City since he joined United in 2004. The 29 year old is the leading United derby scorer with 11 goals. But in recent times he has had to get used to being on the losing side - a sequence Rooney hopes to see end this weekend.
“We want to give fans something to smile about when they go to work on Monday morning, we want them to be the ones to be able to give out the banter to City fans at work. It's a massive game of pride."
Rooney also knows victory would put United four points clear of their rivals, who have dropped to fourth in the table following a 2–1 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday.
Meanwhile, City striker Sergio Aguero wants to put pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea by claiming victory on Sunday.
Manuel Pellegrini's team io nine points behind Chelsea, who have a match in hand against bottom side Leicester. But Aguero knows better than most that City are not averse to an 11th–hour comeback.
