GENSERIC Kusunga has been released from his Athletic contract and won’t get the chance to repeat his Peterborough heroics.
The 27-year-old defender has been in and out of the side this season, making 21 appearances and scoring against Posh in a 2-2 draw.
The Angola international enjoyed his finest moment in an Athletic shirt when he hit the winning goal in last term’s amazing 5-4 victory over Peterborough.
But Kusunga has found his path to the first team blocked recently with Adam Lockwood, Anthony Gerrard and the return to fitness of James Wilson and George Elokobi squeezing him out.
“Gensi has been a good servant for the football club and you can’t fault his effort,” said Athletic manager Dean Holden.
“We would like to thank Gensi and wish him well for the future.”
Kusunga, whose deal was extended for a year last summer, departs Athletic after two seasons, 46 appearances and three goals.
