RUGBY:

KEVIN Sinfield fittingly kicked the winning points to provide a fairytale finish to his magnificent rugby league career as he led Leeds to a seventh grand final victory over Wigan.

The Rhinos twice came from behind in a pulsating encounter in front of a sold–out 73,512 crowd at Old Trafford to win 22-20, with former Waterhead junior Sinfield converting a 64th–minute try from substitute Josh Walters to seal the historic treble.

Sinfield, who will switch codes to join Yorkshire Carnegie next month, came up with some crucial plays and fittingly kicked the winning points to cement his place as the most successful captain in Leeds’ history.

“To top my career off with a treble in my final year is unbelievable. I’m really thankful and really proud,” said “Sir” Kev, already a winner of the league leaders’ shield and the Challenge Cup during the season.

“To finish like tonight against a great team and for it to be so tough out there, to come through at the end was brilliant.”
