Youngsters should get their opportunity

THERE’S been a bit of fuss this week regarding England’s calling up of Manchester United player Jesse Lingard for the France game tonight at Wembley.

He might not have played that much for the United first team yet, but I’m sure he’s a very talented player and the England scouts must have compiled a number of reports on him for the manager.

Don’t forget tonight’s game is just a friendly so as far as I can see it presents Roy Hodgson with an ideal opportunity to draft in a few new faces.

These are the kind of games – against top quality opposition – where youngsters should get a chance to impress on the big stage.

Mr Hodgson won’t be 100-per-cent settled on his line-up, or even his squad, for the Euro 2016 finals yet, so matches like this, and the Spain game last Friday of course, are perfect to take a look at a few new things and maybe try out different formations.

Don’t forget it’s a great chance for the lad Lingard, too.

He won’t feel under any pressure – good luck to him I say.

It’s back to the bread and butter of the Barclays Premier League on Saturday and City face a home game against Liverpool.

It’s going to be a huge game, and it’s looking like Sergio Aguero and David Silva will be fit again so that will give manager Manuel Pellegrini a huge boost.

It’s not really gone fantastically well for Liverpool’s new manager Jurgen Klopp yet.

There have been quite a few draws and then that defeat at home against Crystal Palace was a real shock.

It’s not going to take too long before they start firing on all cylinders again, though.

Klopp is a good manager and a real character – I just hope their resurgence doesn’t start at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
