Record can spur on Sergio

RAVAGED by injuries to key players, Manchester City need star striker Sergio Aguero more than ever.

And given their opponents at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, the omens look good for the master marksman and his team-mates. City are currently missing the likes of Vincent Kompany, Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony with injury.

So Aguero – no stranger to spells on the sidelines – needs to stay fit and deliver performances that will prop up City’s ailing Barclay Premier League title challenge.

If history is anything to go by, Tottenham Hotspur will provide the ideal opposition this weekend.

Spurs contained Agurero in a 4-1 home win at White Hart Lane earlier this season, but the Argentinian, who has scored 18 goals in 25 appearances this season, has a stellar record against the North London club. He has scored 10 times in eight appearances against Spurs, including all four in a 4-1 home victory in October, 2014.

But it won’t be a walk in the park for Aguero and City in Sunday’s late-afternoon fixture.

A series of excellent results has catapulted Tottenham into second, two places and a point above City and with a superior goal difference. That underlines the importance of this match, especially for a City side still smarting from last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of leaders Leicester.
