MANCHESTER City’s performance in the draw at Newcastle didn’t live up to expectations after the fine form they had shown in the previous four or five games.
It was never going to be easy up there given that Newcastle are fighting for their lives at the bottom, they’ve got a new manager and they were a bit buoyant after winning against Swansea, but City were disappointing on the night.
It might have been different if Jesus Navas had converted his early chance, but that game has gone now.
It’s been suggested that some players’ focus may already be on next week’s Champions League game against Real Madrid.
I could understand that as progress in Europe has to be a major priority now, as has making sure the team finishes in the top four.
Every player I know would love to play in a Champions League final.
It’s the ultimate club game and to get the chance to play in the final would be a dream come true for anyone.
However, the next game is against Stoke this weekend, and I don’t expect City boss Manuel Pellegrini to make wholesale changes.
Of course the Madrid match will be at the back of people’s minds, but that fight to reach the top four must continue.
Despite the eventual outcome at Newcastle, I was delighted to see Sergio Aguero get his 100th Premier League goal.
He’s just amazing isn’t he?
He scored a great header, and to be honest he is really good in the air considering his size.
He’s just a fantastic player to have in your squad. Sergio has got a great attitude and his enthusiasm for the game is unrelenting.
