All up for grabs in showdown

IT could hardly have been better scripted: Little Leicester against mighty Manchester United with the Barclays Premier League title tantalisingly within the Foxes’ grasp.

Since the Premier League was formed in 1992, United have won 13 titles. Leicester have flitted between the elite division and the Championship and have never before threatened to get involved in a battle for the top four, let alone a challenge for the title itself.

However, the scenario which will be laid before fans at Old Trafford and fascinated onlookers on television up and down the country on Sunday is very real, yet almost impossible to believe.

Leicester City, the team who staged an amazing late rally to drag themselves away from the relegation zone 12 months ago, now stand on the cusp of winning English football’s greatest prize.

Should Leicester win, they will be crowned champions. It is as simple as that.

As for United, they have their own important agenda. Much maligned this season, the Reds have blossomed since the injection of youth in recent weeks and are breathing down the necks of neighbours City and Arsenal for a place in next season’s Champions League.

With both teams striving for victory, Sunday’s clash has all the ingredients for a classic encounter.

And how sweet it would be for the Foxes to clinch the crown at the home of a great club synonymous with Premier League title success.
