Injuries hampered Blues as their title bid faltered

OVERALL many Manchester City fans will probably say that the 2015-16 campaign was a disappointing one.

However, despite not being able to win back the title due to some below-par performances in the Premier League, I’ve seen progress at the club.

City reached the semi-finals of the Champions league for the first time, they won the League Cup don’t forget, and they’ve qualified for next season’s Champions League - unless United win by about 19 goals tonight against Bournemouth of course.

I’m not normally one for making excuses, but I do think City were hampered by a number of injuries to big players.

They had an incredible start to the season and it was looking as though they were going to storm the division, but when you lose players of the calibre of Vinny Kompany, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Samir Nasri, it’s bound to have an effect.

They are all key players and all spent quite a lot of time out of the team.

In fact I think only Joe Hart and Fernandinho made more than 30 appearances last season.

That in itself tells a story.

Of course Pep Guardiola moves in during the summer and there will be be huge expectation placed on him and the club once again.

I think there will be changes to the squad, too, both in terms of players leaving and others coming in.

Who knows how Pep will re-jig his squad? It’s going to be an interesting summer, that’s for sure.

This is my final column for this season so hopefully you’ll all look out when I return at the beginning of August.

I don’t think I’ll be going too far in the interim period.

I’ve just moved house so I might just get away for a week somewhere and the odd few days here and there.
