A GANG of youths left a man unconscious and requiring stitches after they kicked him in the head during an unprovoked attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was attacked by about six teenagers in the early hours of last Saturday morning in Shaw.

The man was walking along the bridge on Linney Lane past the gang at around 12.55am when the youths shouted at him.

The thugs then punched him in the face and then chased the man as he tried to escape.

But as the man was fleeing his legs were kicked from underneath him and he fell down.

At this point the gang started kicking his lower back and head which rendered him unconscious.

As he came round he saw the youths walking onto Oak Street before taking the first right and noticed that he had a three inch cut to his left forearm which later required stitches in hospital.

He also received cuts to the top of his head, lip, shoulder and knee and was treated in hospital.

Officers want to speak to a teenager who is described as white, around 16 to 17-years-old, approximately 5ft 10ins and of a slight build. He has blond/mousey brown hair and a thin, round face. He was wearing a light pastel-coloured jacket with a plain white T-shirt underneath and a dark-coloured pair of skinny jeans.

Detective Sergeant Jason Byrne of GMP's Oldham Borough, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was simply making his way home.

"If anyone saw a group of teenagers in the area around that time, specifically someone matching the description, please get in touch.

"Our enquiries are ongoing but we are yet to identify the offender so I'm appealing for the public's help to do so."
