PLANS for a new filling station in Shaw have been submitted to Oldham Council.
Asda, on Greenfield Lane, have applied for permission to build the petrol station within its current car park.
The plans state that the site will include a fully automated four-pump filling station with "pay at the pump" self-service payment at all eight of the positions.
The plans do not include proposals for a shop/kiosk at the filling station and would mean a reduction of 35 car parking spaces at the store, bringing the total available to 281.
As part of the plans, the store's recycling area will be relocated to the northern part of the car park.
The submission of the plans to the council follows a public consultation and drop in meeting where residents were urged to learn more about the proposals.
The proposals have been met with a mixed response.
Some residents have argued the addition of a second petrol station to Shaw would increase market competition and choice for residents while others have also raised concerns about parking at the store and traffic in the area increasing as a result of the planned addition.
An Asda spokesperson said: "We were delighted that so many local residents and community representatives approached us to discuss the proposals during the recent in-store consultation. We look forward to continuing to work with the community as the proposals progress."
