Mr Tough-Guy is tested to the limit

Mud, mud, glorious mud . . . a thumbs up from Steve Hill

SHAW teacher Steve Hill likes nothing better than to flex his muscles and test his stamina.

Since September he has travelled the country to take part in four taxing challenges.

The Spartan Sprint saw him tackle a 6km obstacle challenge in North Yorkshire, the Spartan Super took him to the Midlands for a 12km obstacle course, and the Spartan Beast saw him come up against the toughest of the lot with a 25 km challenge in London.

The deputy head of St Joseph’s Primary School pulled off the coup, as well as completing the Tough Mudder Challenge, in Cheshire, to raise money towards the fundraising efforts of his Year Six class.

The children have been raising money by any means possible over the school year to split between Cancer Research UK, PKD UK (polysystic kidney disease) and Shane Keating, a Year 1 pupil at St Joseph’s who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Mr Hill, who next month will compete in the annual Tough Guy Challenge, said of the feats: “As well as helping to raise money through sponsorship, taking part is also a great personal physical challenge and great fun too — believe it or not.

“Many think I’m mad,” he laughed.

So far this year, his class has raised £5,000 for the chosen causes.
