SHOPS in Shaw are being revitalised with Oldham Council business improvement grants.

The first independent traders in Shaw have benefited from the £100,000 investment to give their premises a facelift.

Homeware store, Interiors, on Market Street, and barbers Headmaster, on Milnrow Road, have both been awarded grants towards giving their shop fronts a makeover.

Hairdressers Swithins, will be putting their grant towards alterations to the ground floor to make the space more efficient. This will also enable further apprenticeship opportunities for the business.

A number of other Shaw businesses are applying to the council for funding to receive 50 per cent of the costs to improve their appearance. Grants are available up to £3,000.

Similar schemes are available in Lees and Failsworth (A62 corridor) with £100,000 also invested in each of these areas.

Stephen Hollingsworth, of Headmaster said: “This investment from Oldham Council is a great way of supporting existing businesses and regenerating the area. I’ve been here for over 25 years and wanted to improve the shop front for a very long time.”
