IT’S business as usual for the Liberal Democrats as Howard Sykes has retained his role as Oldham group leader .

Councillor John McCann was selected to continue as the party’s deputy leader.

The Lib-Dems have 10 seats on Oldham Council after holding on to the three they defended at last week’s elections.

Councillor Sykes said: “It is again gratifying that John and I have received the unanimous endorsement of our peers. Despite some torrid results for the Liberal Democrats across the country, it was at least some consolation that Liberal Democrats in Oldham successfully defended all three of their seats.

“I look forward to working with John to take the group forward and I am pleased to welcome our new councillors Chris Gloster and Julia Turner and to welcome back Councillor Derek Heffernan, who was again re-elected.”
