Cafe Mosquito device owned by the council

THE high-frequency device fitted at the back of a Shaw cafe to deter youths is owned by Oldham Council.

The Chronicle reported last week on the Mosquito alarm, fixed to the rear wall of the Naughty But Nice cafe in High Street.

The issue was raised by youth councillors at this month’s full council meeting on September 9.

It has since emerged that the device is owned - and was fitted - by Oldham Council with the owner’s permission.

The controversial device was originally fitted to the nearby Tesco Express before being moved to the cafe. It is in operation due to local problems with anti-social behaviour at the rear of the cafe.
