Care home requires improvement - CQC

A ROYTON care home has been told it 'requires improvement' by government health inspectors.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found three breaches of health and social care regulations at Royley House Care Home, in Lea View.

Quality of leadership at the home was described as 'inadequate' while care, responsiveness, effectiveness and safety were all said to 'require improvement'.

Inspectors said: "The registered manager did not have over sight of the day-to-day running of the home and lacked leadership."

An assessment of the home which is overseen by RochCare Ltd was undertaken in October and the associated report was released this month.

Operator RochCare apologised that the home had "fallen short" of the standards residents deserve and said a "robust action plan" had been put in place. Steps have been taken to bring about improvements through staff training, monitoring processes and support from senior teams.

The CQC said: "Although the home was clean, infection prevention and control measures were not thorough enough. We observed a senior carer instil eye drops without first washing their hands.

"We were unable to find evidence that staff had been adequately trained in infection prevention and control practices."

Directors of RochCare said: "We are very sorry the home has fallen short of the high standards residents and their loved ones expect and deserve.

"The wellbeing, safety and health of the individuals we support are our top priorities.

"We have been working very hard over the last three months to address all of the issues raised and have made serious improvements since then.

"We have implemented a robust action plan which includes additional staff training."
