SADDLEWORTH councillor Garth Harkness will be the Liberal Democrat candidate for the constituency of Oldham West and Royton at the General Election on June 8.
Councillor Harkness was elected to represent the Saddleworth North ward in May 2012.
He is currently shadow cabinet member for employment and skills and has been a councillor for Saddleworth Parish Council since May 2011.
The Oldham West and Royton constituency is currently represented by MP Jim McMahon, who won a by-election in December 2015 after long-standing MP Michael Meacher died in October 2015.

Mr McMahon received 17,209 votes and a majority of 10,722 votes.
Councillor Garth Harkness said: "I am pleased to be standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate.
"We are the only party holding the Government to account on Brexit.
"We are the party of pro-business and free trade because we believe we should stay in the single market.
"We are the only party who want the people to decide on the terms of Brexit in a second referendum rather than giving the Government a blank cheque to walk off a cliff."
