Improving schools celebrate

ROUNDTHORN and St Hugh’s, Holts, are among the country’s most improved schools.

They are celebrating after they bettered their English and maths results every year since 2008.

The percentage of 11 year olds at Roundthorn reaching the expected levels in the two subjects is up from 63 per cent four years ago to 85 per cent. St Hugh’s results have increased from 38 to 60 per cent.

Both figures are in the top 200 nationally.

Roundthorn head teacher Lisa Needham, previously deputy head at St Hugh’s, said: “I am absolutely delighted. It is down to my team working hard with governors and parents.”

Blackshaw Lane, Royton, and St Herbert’s, Chadderton, also chalked up year-on-year improvements.

But half of Oldham’s schools boycotted last year’s national SATs tests which will affect the improvement league table.

Greenhill has the borough’s top value-added score, which measurers the progress of individual pupils. Several schools also saw their pupils progress by at least two levels in both English and maths, another measure included in the league tables

The Government has also published information on how much funding schools receive, what they spend their money on, teacher salaries, how many staff they employ, their teacher/pupil ratio and what type of pupils they have.



Chadderton Hall Junior School’s results have not been published following an investigation into SATs irregularities.
