Kay has the future all mapped out

Date published: 24 January 2012

A NEW challenge beckons for an Oldham widow who completed a three-year adventure across America to help deal with the loss of her husband.

Kay Morris-Roberston snaked her way across the States in a motorhome where she visited towns in alphabetical order.

She now plans to do the same thing across the UK using only public transport.

Kay (37), who spent Christmas and New Year in Thornham with her family, suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after seeing her husband of six months, John, die suddenly from a heart condition.

After psychiatric care she was inspired to go on an amazing adventure for charity in John’s memory.

Kay said: “After hearing about my first trip, people have been telling me to do the same thing here in the UK.”

Kay will only be allowed to go where the public choose to send her as destinations will be decided by an online vote.

Like the US journey, the former Crompton House pupil, who moved to the US with her husband in October, 2007, to take up a job as a high-flying executive, can only take in small towns.

She will follow the letters of the alphabet and will only go where the British public send her even if it is hundreds of miles in the opposite direction. Kay did think about going across Europe but ruled that challenge unworkable.

“The UK is straight forward while Europe is more difficult if I want to avoid touristy places,” she added.

“Also, in France people would vote for French cities and in Spain for Spanish ones.

Kay, who has written a book about her American adventure called “A to Zee Across America” is now looking to the future.

“If I get enough votes I might go out and look for a sponsor,” she said.

Kay plans to start her trip in the summer once she gets at least 300 votes for destinations.
