THE impressive story of Jodrell Bank and its telescope will be discussed at Royton Local History Society on January 13 (7.30pm).

Professor Ian Morrison will explain the history of the world-famous observatory.

The talk is free for members and £1.50 for visitors.


ROYTON Townswomen’s Guild will be hearing from Barbara and Addie Redmond on Tuesday, January 14, as they detail their Namibian experience. The talk and film event will take place at Royton Town Hall at 7.30pm. Admission, including refreshments, costs £1 of members or £2 for visitors.



BOOK a place on the eight-week “Why Weight” healthy eating programme taking place every Tuesday from January 21. The classes, from 10am to noon at Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre, aim to help adults lose weight and keep it off with guidance on healthy recipes, portion control and keeping active. KEEP the charitable spirit of Christmas alive a bit longer and donate any unwanted gifts and chocolate to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. The hospice will be accepting donations, which can be used in future tombolas, raffles and hampers, from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, January 19.



A GARAGE will be demolished to make way for a single-storey side extension at 4 Kerwood Drive, Royton, if plans are approved by Oldham Council.



PLANNING permission is being sought to turn Marston Tavern, Rochdale Road, into three new retail units and two flats.
