THE 90-year-old woman who grabbed a burglar round the waist and clung on as her shrugged her off has spoken of her ordeal.

Eda Marron of Cumberland Drive, Royton, hung on and started screaming after he walked into her home.

Mrs Marron uses a three-wheeled walking frame, but abandoned it to wrap her arms around the burglar.

The man entered the house at 3pm on Monday - just as she was having a cup of tea and relaxing.

She said: “He just came in and was staring at me. I told him to get out but he just said no.

“He wouldn’t go. He just stared. He never spoke a word other than ‘No’.

“So I had to go and get him. I didn’t want to use a walking stick on him in case he hit me with it.

“The only way was to grab hold of him by the waist and twist him down. I had to lean on him. Then I screamed out. I wanted him out of the house, whoever he was.

“That’s all I could do to make him leave. I couldn’t use my walking frame because I couldn’t have got hold of him. After a while I lost my strength and I fell on to the carpet.”

The raider fled with a handbag containing only a disability badge.

Mrs Marron, who suffered some bruising to her legs from falling and a cut hand, said: “I’ve never had anything like this happen to me before. I was a bit shocked but I’m getting over it now.”

Mrs Marron has been helped to get over her ordeal by her neighbours, who have started to visit every day to check on her.

Greater Manchester Police say the intruder was slim, white, wearing a dark hoodie and just over 5ft tall.
