OLDHAM College student Leon Harrop is appearing in a new BBC primetime drama starring Philip Glenister.
The 22 year old, from Royton, appers in the three-part series “From There to Here” which ends tonight (BBC One, 9pm).
Set in Manchester, it follows the lives of two families in the aftermath of the IRA bombing of the Arndale Centre in 1996.
Leon, who has Down’s Syndrome, said: “All the cast members were really friendly and made me so welcome. It was strange to see myself on the television. I found it fascinating to see how different the final programme looks on TV, without all the background of cameras, lights and people.
“Hopefully I can do some more acting in the future. A part in ‘Coronation Street’ would be my dream job — it’s my favourite programme.”
Leon, a former pupil at New Bridge Special School in Hollinwood, made his TV debut in the BBC drama The Street in 2009 and was described as a “natural talent” by top writer Jimmy McGovern.
Tutor Ailsa Whiting said: “We are so proud of Leon’s achievements. This TV appearance is a fantastic opportunity for Leon and I’m sure there are big things in store for him.
