Woman of Oldham search

Date published: 08 July 2014

THE search is on to find the Woman of Oldham 2014.

The committee behind the title is urging readers to nominate someone they believe is worthy of the crown.

Last year’s winner was Royton grandmother Marjorie Bamforth, who at 86 had more than five decades of fundraising and voluntary work in different sectors under her belt.

Many winners have been chosen for their voluntary work, fundraising and selfless dedication to the welfare of others.

Now in its 22nd year, the event not only gives recognition to often unsung heroes who work hard behind the scenes, but raises thousands of pounds for local causes.

The Woman of Oldham Committee holds fundraising events throughout the year, and has raised a total of £111,000 since it was formed.

Last year it donated £7,000 to Oldham’s Victoria Breast Unit’s prosthetic service.

Nominations for the 2014 title are now being taken, and the winner, who will also be given the Oldham Evening Chronicle crystal rose bowl, will be announced at the White Hart Hotel, Lydgate, on Wednesday, September 24.
