Burglary victim has heart attack

A plucky Royton pensioner suffered a heart attack after confronting a gang of burglars and ordering them to leave her home.

The 62-year-old is stable in hospital after the incident, which police say could have proved fatal.

Police, who released information on the attack yesterday afternoon, are now hunting four men, who left the woman fighting for her life after they broke into the address on Tandlewood Park, at around 4.30pm last Thursday.

They ransacked the property, forcing open locked doors until they came across the woman in her bedroom. She had already called her son by this time to tell him she was being burgled and he called the police.

The pensioner ordered the men to leave her property and they fled, but they had already terrified her so much that when police officers arrived she was suffering a heart attack.

She remains in a stable condition at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The four offenders are all described as young, white men.

A police spokesman said: “This is a case in which the victim could quite literally have been frightened to death by these intruders.”
