Martin faces his fears for charity

Date published: 18 July 2014

A MAN who is terrified of needles has volunteered for what could well be the worst experience of his life.

Martin Jones will go under the needle at Royton’s Brass Knuckles Studio on Sunday to have a tattoo on his arm.

Why is he doing it? To raise money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice to say thank-you for the care given to his sister.

Christine Stott (60) died at the Royton hospice in April, after spending a few days there.

Martin said: “She died with dignity and no pain.

Compassion

“My sister had been through a lot. She had had breast cancer when she was younger, then got cancer in her throat and it spread throughout her body.

“We were expecting her to have to go through a lot of pain, but she didn’t seem to.”

He added: “The one word to describe Dr Kershaw’s is compassion. They did a lot for us as a family after Christine died and I just want to say thank-you.”

Martin, of Overdale Close, Oldham, came up with the idea of having the Dr Kershaw’s logo tattooed on his arm by tattoo artist Andy Deblasio.

Martin said: “I am absolutely terrified of needles, but I wanted a permanent reminder so it had to be a tattoo.

“Needles make me panic and break out in a cold sweat. I have only just started going to the dentist because I’m petrified.”

Anyone who wants to sponsor him can do so via lifenotes.uk.net or on his facebook page or call in to the Old Grey Mare and ask at the bar. You can also email him at mrj2911@ntl world.com.
