Brilliant talents of young artists
Date published: 25 July 2014
Primary school pupils enjoyed getting involved in arts activities such as drawing and creating woven and textile pieces at the Oldham Academy North.
They took part in the annual Primary Arts Festival which was this year sponsored by the Royton Academy for the third year running. It lasted for three months and involved more than 300 children from Years 1 to 6 from 11 schools.
The theme of the festival was the urban environment and workshops have also taken place at Gallery Oldham with freelance artist Claire Mather.
The programme culminated with a presentation at the academy. Primaries taking part were Beever, Royton Hall, St Anne’s, Crompton, Richmond, St Thomas’ Werneth, Broadfield, Corpus Christie, St Anne’s and Coppice.
Laura Ferguson, educational officer for Gallery Oldham, said: “The aim of the festival, which was bigger than ever this year, is to embed arts and creative learning into primary schools and hopefully pupils will take that interest into secondary school.”
Claire congratulated the pupils on the standard of their work.
She said: “The children and the staff very much enjoyed themselves. I was very impressed with the standard of work.”
