MEMORIES of the Whit Walks will be brought to life at the Royton Local History Society meeting tonight.

Canon Jim Burns will entertain visitors with the history of Whit Walks in and around Greater Manchester from 1801 to the present day.

The meeting takes place at Downey House, Church Street from 7.30pm. Members free, £1.50 for visitors, including refreshments.

THERE is still time to get your nominations and donations in for Dr Kershaw’s Light Up a Life campaign, which will see the hospice grounds illuminated at Christmas.

The annual drive gives friends and relatives the chance to dedicate a light to a loved one they wish to remember throughout the festive period.

To ensure the name will appear in the Light Up a Life booklet, completed nominations and donations must be returned to the fundraising office no later than Thursday. Call 0161-624 9984, or visit www.drkershawshospice.org.uk.

GET ready for a musical evening with Lois Malcolm and Friends at the Royton Townswomen Guild tomorrow at Royton Town Hall from 7.30pm, £1 for members or £2 for visitors, including refreshments.

LEARN how to grow your own winter vegetables during a free planting session at Royton Youth Centre, Chapel Street, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Wednesday.

WARM up your vocal cords ready for an evening of carol singing in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice on Thursday, November 20.

The festive concert at Oldham Parish Church will also feature St Joseph’s School and Uke Too Ukulele Band as well as the hospice’s own Kershaw’s Crooners. Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets are available from the hospice, Dr Kershaw’s charity shops, St Joseph’s School in Shaw and Oldham Parish Church.
