Big switch-on

ROYTON’S Christmas lights will be officially switched on at Royton Town Hall on Thursday.

Members of the public should gather in Royton town centre from 6pm to watch the event before heading to the Railway Hotel for Santa’s grotto, complete with presents, drinks and mince pies.


TAKE part in local democracy at the Royton District Executive meeting and Community Forum from 6pm today. The meeting, taking place at Royton Youth Centre, Chapel Street, is a chance to speak to councillors and discuss any local issues.


POLICE will hold a Pub and Club Watch meeting at Royton Oddfellows Club, Union Street, from 10 to 11am on Wednesday.

PLANNING permission has been approved to build a side extension and pitch roof extension at 56 Oak Avenue, Royton.


CREATIVE craft events are offering a local charity a free stall at their Christmas market on Sunday, December 14. The market takes place at Oldham Academy North from 10.30am to 4pm with a variety of crafts on sale and children’s activities. Entrance costs £1 with under-12s going free. POLICE are urging Royton residents to be vigilant following reports of bogus workmen targeting elderly residents in the area. The warning follows an incident on Pennine View where workmen did a shoddy job on an elderly couple’s roof, then demanded a large fee. The couple threatened to call Trading Standards and the men fled.
