AFTER being stranded in Jamaica for more than three months, Royton man Lloyd Bogle has finally been granted permission to return home.

Lloyd (65) was stopped by immigration officials at Sangster Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica in October as he tried to board a flight to his home of more than 50 years.

The retired dad-of-two had been in Jamaica for what he thought would be his first two-week holiday in his native country since coming to the UK as a teenager.

But officials told Lloyd he would need a visa to return to the UK - leaving him stranded without a place to stay in Jamaica for months

“When I heard from them that my visa was finally approved I just dropped everything and shouted out,” said Mr Bogle. “I’m still struggling to find words to describe the moment.

Mr Bogle left Jamaica in 1957 but never applied for British citizenship or a passport because he hadn’t left the UK in all that time.

When he applied for a passport for the trip last year backlogs at the Passport Office led officials to recommend he renewed his Jamaican passport - which he did, and which led to the problem.

Ecstatic Lloyd is due home very soon - and can’t wait to return.
