TRIBUTES have poured in for a former Royton and Crompton School teacher who has died of cancer.
Joe Henderson taught English at the Blackshaw Lane secondary for 25 years until he retired in 2010 and moved back to Hartlepool with his family. He was also a long-serving governor at the school.
Principal Kevin O’Hagan said: “Joe supported thousands of young people from both Royton and Shaw in developing a passion for the English language and a love for literature.
Scores of tributes have been posted on the “I Love Shaw” Facebook page, describing Mr Henderson as a “lovely man” and a “great teacher” who always had time to listen.
