ROYTON Local History Society will hear from Glynn Hogan, a relative of Sgt John Hogan, of Royton, who was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1915.

In an illustrated talk, taking place from 7.30pm at Downey House on Monday, June 8, Glynn will look at John’s life, his career and how his achievement has been celebrated. Entrance for members is free, £1.50 for visitors, including refreshments.


A PLANNING application to build a two storey side extension at 113 Castleton Road, Royton, has been received.


FIRST Choice Homes Oldham will hold a surgery offering advice and support at Royton Library on Wednesday, 10.30am to noon.


POLICE officers will be available for advice and help during a surgery at Trinity Methodist Church, Radcliffe Street, from 10am to noon on Thursday.


CHAT to your local councillors and find out more about events in the area at the Royton District Executive Meeting on Monday, June 8. The meeting takes place at Royton Youth Centre, Chapel Street, from 6pm.


GRAB your favourite summer outfit and head down to Dr Kershaw’s on Sunday, June 14, for the annual hospice garden party. Open from noon to 4pm, the event is open to all and will feature a variety of entertainment, raffles and refreshments.

Entrance is £1 for adults with children going free.


FIND out more about “The Last Laugh of the Railway King” at Royton Townswomen’s Guild on Tuesday, June 9. The talk, by Geoff Scargill, will take place at Royton Town Hall from 7.30pm.
